Eastern Oregon Rallies to Edge Eagles

Mariah Stacona led NU with 19 points tonight
Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – No. 19 ranked Eastern Oregon had to overcome a halftime deficit to rally to just get by Northwest University, 67-66, in Cascade Conference play tonight in the NU Pavilion. A good crowd was on hand to pay tribute to former Eagle, Taylor Cliett ('13), who passed away in November. The night was designated Taylor Strong Night in his honor.
 
Northwest U came out strong in the first two quarters of the game tonight taking a 22-17 lead on the Mountaineers at the end of the first period. EOU and NU played even in the second quarter at 17-17 with Northwest U taking a 39-34 lead at the break. NU's Mariah Stacona had 10 of her 19 points in the first half to lead the way for the Eagles while Maya Ah You led EOU with 9 points.
 
Stacona would continue her hot hand to start the second half and hit a 3-pointer to put NU up 42-34, but the Mounties would cut the lead to here, 46-43 with 5:26 to go in the quarter. Katie Rozumny's trey would put NU in front 55-47 at the 1:23 mark, but an 8-0 run to finish the period would tie the game at 55-55 as Maya Ah You would bury a 3-pointer with 11 seconds on the clock.
 
With the game knotted up at 61-all with 5:27 to go in the fourth quarter, EOU's Payton Parrish would hit a clutch 3-pointer to give the Mountaineers the lead for good, 64-61. Mariah Stacona would hit another 3-point shot with 1:36 to go to pull NU to within one, 67-66, but neither team would manage to score the remainder of the way as EOU would hold on for the victory.
 
Northwest U (8-8, 3-3 CCC) was led by Mariah Stacona's 19 points. Miranda Langenhorst and Katie Rozumny each scored 12 for the Eagles with Langenhorst registering a double-double with 11 rebounds. NU was 28 for 69 from the field for 41 per cent and hit 37 per cent of their 3-point attempts.
 
Doniesha Webber led Eastern Oregon (12-1, 5-0 CCC) with 13 points and Maya Ah You added 12 points for the Mountaineers who shot 38 per cent for the game. EOU held a 46-42 rebounding margin over Northwest U.
 
"Tonight, it was a great game in front of a great crowd," said NU head coach, Ken Crawford. "It was an honor to be part of the celebration of Taylor Cliett's life. Even with the 1 point defeat to #19 ranked Eastern Oregon University, we can see progress being made. We continue to be excited about what is in front of us. Thanks for everyone's support!"
 
Northwest U remains at home on Saturday and will host the College of Idaho at 5:30 p.m., while Eastern Oregon travels to Olympia, to play Evergreen.
