Corban Holds Off Eagle Rally

Another double-double for Brianna Fiso tonight
Box Score SALEM, Ore. – Corban University held off a late game rally by the NU Eagles to post a narrow, 73-70, conference victory tonight. The Warriors were led by a 23 point, 12 rebound performance by Sadie Pilgeram.

Corban got out to an early lead as they would take a 15-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. NU would come back strong in the second period outscoring Corban 18-17, led by Charmaine Bradford's 7 points, to make it 32-24 at halftime. Jordan Asher helped keep the Eagles close with 4 points and 4 assists. Fifteen offensive rebounds out of 32 total boards were key in Corban maintaining their first half lead.

The third quarter would prove to be a stalemate as each team would score 18 points giving Corban a 50-42 lead going into the final quarter. Brianna Fiso's lay-in would cut the Corban lead six, 50-44 just 15 seconds into the final quarter, but the Warriors would outscore the Eagles 14-11, to lead 64-53 after Jade Lowery's jumper at 4:43.

Corban would hold their largest lead, 69-57, with 2:09 remaining in the game when NU would begin their run. A single free throw by Jordan Asher would cut the Corban lead to just four, 70-66, with 31 seconds to go. The Eagles would force a turnover and Fiso's lay-in with 9 seconds showing on the clock would make it, 72-70. Sadie Pilgeram would miss a second free throw giving NU one more chance as Jordan Asher's 3-pointer would miss the mark with 2 seconds to go as the clock would run out.

Northwest U's (11-15, 6-10 CCC) Brianna Fiso would lead the Eagles with a double-double: 19 points and 11 rebounds while Charmaine Bradford would score 12 points. Jordan Asher would tie for game honors with 9 assists while adding 8 rebounds and 7 points.

In addition to Pilgeram's 23 points, Corban (14-10, 9-6 CCC) got 22 points and 7 rebounds from Julie Young and 10 points from Payton Wilcox. Jade Lowery tied Asher for assist honors with 9 for the Warriors. Corban held a 51-40 rebounding edge including 19 offensive rebounds.

Northwest U moves south to Eugene for a Saturday night meeting with Northwest Christian at 5:30 p.m.
