Owls Fly Over Eagles

Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Oregon Tech led the entire way enroute to a 74-63 Cascade Conference victory over Northwest University tonight in the NU Pavilion. OIT improves to 10-2 in CCC play and puts them in second place in the conference.
 
After Oregon Tech took an 18-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, Northwest U battled back in the second period to play the Owls to a 19-19 deadlock giving OIT a 37-31 lead at halftime.
 
NU would come out strong to start the third period and outscore the Owls 9-5 to make it a 42-40 game with 5:18 on the clock. Tech would then reel off five straight points to increase their lead to 47-40 by the 4:23 mark. A 3-pointer by NU's Charmaine Bradford would cut the OIT lead to two once again, 49-47, but a basket and three straight free throws would give Tech a 54-47 lead at the end of the quarter.
 
After Mariah Stacona would hit a 3-pointer to cut the OIT lead to 54-50 at the 9:32 mark, the Owls would go on a 9-2 run capped off by Ashleigh Vanderbrink's jumper to give OIT a 61-62 lead with 5:49 to go in the game. NU would not be able to get any closer than six points the remainder of the game as Oregon Tech would post their 17th win of the season.
 
Hannah Carlson led Northwest U (10-13, 5-8 CCC) with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Teammate Miranda Langenhorst added 12 points for the Eagles who managed to shoot 36 per cent for the game.
 
Three players scored in double figures for No. 26 ranked Oregon Tech (17-5, 10-2 CCC) with Ashleigh Vanderbrink leading the way with 19 points. Bailey Nelson scored 14 and Nohea Waiwaiole scored 12 points and pulled down 6 rebounds for the Owls who shot 36 per cent from the field.
 
"It was a solid game for the Lady Eagles tonight against another top 25 opponent," commented NU head coach, Ken Crawford. "We continue to be pushed to play our best, and we are starting to see positive results! Now we need to turn these close games into wins!"
