Yotes Edge Eagles in Heartbreaker

Miranda Langenhorst with 16 points and 12 rebounds tonight
Box Score CALDWELL, Idaho Paige Burson's tip-in at the buzzer wouldn't be enough as the College of Idaho came from behind to edge the NU Eagles, 58-57, in Cascade Conference play tonight. NU also had two 3-point attempts in the final 5 seconds which would not find the mark.

The Eagles came out strong in the first two quarters to tie the Yotes 21-21 at halftime. It was NU erasing a 9-6 deficit in the final 1:38 of the first period with a 4-0 run, led by two Hannah Carlson free throws and Jackie Bento's offensive tip-in at the buzzer to give the Eagles a 10-9 lead.  Three ties would mark a close second quarter and with C of I leading 21-19 with 10 seconds to go, but Emily Henderson's jumper as the buzzer sounded, knotted the game at 21-21 as the teams headed to the locker rooms.

With the game tied 23-23 in the third period, the Eagles would go on a 12-0 run capped off by 3-pointers by Mariah Stacona and Katie Rozumny to lead 35-23. But, the Yotes would answer with a run of their own to outscore the Eagles 9-0 to cut the NU lead to 35-32 with 1:44 left in the quarter. Northwest U would then score the final 5 points of the period as a Miranda Langenhorst basket would give NU a 40-32 lead at quarter's end.

The Eagles would continue to hold the lead until the 4:24 mark in the final quarter when the Yotes would tie the game at 48-all on a 3-point basket by Alyssa Case.  After a 52-52 tie, C of I would then take a 4 point lead after Petra Lumpert's driving lay-up. Charmaine Bradford would bring the Eagle back with her trey, making it a one point game, 56-55, with 1:21 to go. C of I would then go 2 for 4 from the free throw line to put them up 58-55 with 41 seconds on the clock, but the Eagles shooting would go cold, going 0 for 4 in the final seconds as Paige Burson would tip the ball in as time expired giving C of I the 58-57 win.

Miranda Langenhorst led Northwest U (10-14, 5-9 CCC) with a double-double: 16 points and 12 rebounds, hitting 62 per cent of her shots while Charmaine Bradford scored 9 points and had 4 assists. Emily Henderson came off the bench to score 8 points for the Eagles who shot 40 per cent for the game.

The College of Idaho (7-12, 7-6 CCC) was led by Kiara Skinner's 13 points and 9 rebounds while teammate, Alyssa Case, scored a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. The Yotes held a 49-2 rebounding margin over NU which included 16 offensive rebounds.

From Coach Crawford: "It was a very tough loss tonight. We were unable to get some free throws to fall for us at the end. It was great game to watch, but a tough one to lose. Now we're getting ready for Eastern Oregon tomorrow!"

NU will now head west to play Eastern Oregon tomorrow night at 5:30 p.m. in the Quinn Coliseum.
