Beacons Fourth Quarter Downs Eagles

Hannah Carlson led the Eagles in scoring tonight
Box Score EUGENE, Ore. – Northwest Christian broke open a close game outscoring the NU Eagles in the fourth quarter to pull out a 70-60 Cascade Conference victory tonight in the Morse Events Center. NU had battled back to tie the game at 42-42 by the end of the fourth quarter, but the Beacons outscored the Eagles 28-18 in the final period to take the victory.

Northwest Christian took advantage of a cold shooting Northwest U team in the first half as they would take a 31-23 lead at halftime. NU would go just 9 of 31 for 29 per cent shooting in the half including 0-4 from the 3-point line while the Beacons shot 36 per cent, hitting 11 of 31 shots for the lead.

The Eagles would come back strong in the third quarter going on a 13-6 run and trail just 32-21 after a Miranda Langenhorst jumper at the 7:54 mark. After a NCU turnover, Paige Burson would give the Eagles a 33-32 lead with her driving lay-up. Burson would then drill a 3-pointer with 5:39 on the clock to put NU up 36-32. A 10-0 run by NCU would give them back the lead capped off by Connor Borigo's basket at 3:20. But, two straight treys, one by Katie Rozumny (2:33) and another by Mariah Stacona with 3 seconds on the clock would knot the game at 42-all at quarter's end.

Northwest Christian would open the final period with the hot hand and a 13-0 run as Kenzie Weston's would give the Beacons a 55-42 lead which they would never relinquish. Monique Thompson's free throw with 1:26 to go in the game would give NCU their largest lead at 66-50 as they would go on to post their fifth CCC win against two losses.

Hannah Carlson led four Eagles (8-10, 3-5 CCC) in double figures with 12 points and 4 assists while sophomore, Miranda Langenhorst had 11 points. Mariah Stacona and Charmaine Bradford each scored 10 for the Eagles with Bradford adding 6 assists. NU finished the game shooting 38 per cent after hitting 46 per cent of their shots in the second half.

Northwest Christian (8-6, 5-2 CCC) was led by Monique Thompson's 17 points and 5 rebounds. Connor Borigo added 16 points for the Beacons who shot 41 per cent for the night. NCU held a 40-38 rebounding margin over the Eagles.

From Coach Crawford: "It was a tough loss against a motivated NCU team tonight. We worked ourselves back into the game only to lose our focus toward the end. We continue to need to learn how to play the full 40 minutes and I'm confident we will answer the call."
