MSUN Down Cold Shooting Eagles

Box Score GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The NU Eagles completed a three game swing through Montana and Frontier Conference teams with a 77-48 loss to Montana State Northern in the McLaughlin Center late this afternoon. Cold first half shooting plagued the Eagles as they converted only 6 of 31 shots for 19%.
 
Montana State came out hitting their shots going 28 for 51 for 46% as they would outscore the Eagles 15-8 in the first quarter and 18-9 in the second to take a 33-17 lead into halftime. Hayden Craig led the Eagles in scoring with 6 first half points. NU was also cold from the 3-point line, shooting just 10% (1-10).
 
The Eagles came out in the second half scoring at a higher percentage (36%), but MSUN would also continue to score well with an impressive 63% shooting average. The Lights would lead 61-27 at the end of the third quarter.  The Eagles would not quit and would outscore MSUN 21-16 in the final quarter to cut into the Lights' lead, but it wouldn't be enough. Kalee Fowler helped lead the scoring for NU with 11 second half points on 4 for 5 shooting and shooting perfect from beyond the 3-point line hitting 3 for 3.
 
In addition to Fowler's 11 points, Northwest U (1-4) got 8 points from freshman Andie Kristinat who was 3 for 6 from the field for 8 points. The starting front line for the Eagles found it tough going tonight as they went a combined 0 for 15 from the field. NU's 3-point shooting improved to 67% in the second half (7 for 11).
 
Montana State Northern (4-1) was led by Lili Hilderbrand's 15 points of 6 for 8 shooting. Shiloh McCormick and Peyton Filius each scored 12 and Brandy Lambourne scored 10 with 5 assists. MSUN shot 55% for the game, 50% from beyond the 3-point arc (6-12). The Lights out rebounded the Eagles, 41-32, but NU pulled down 13 offensive rebounds.
 
Said Ken Crawford, Eagle head coach after the game, "It was another tough learning experience for the lady Eagles. We continue to struggle with consistency and efficiency, but our second group played hard all the way to the end! We're looking forward to getting back home and back onto the practice court."
 
Next Up:
The Eagles remain on the road the entire month of November and will travel to Lewiston, Idaho next Saturday for a game with Lewis-Clark State, another Frontier Conference team.
