Linfield Downs Eagles to Open 2018

Box Score MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – The NU Eagles battle back to outscore Linfield College in the fourth period, but it wouldn't be enough as the Wildcats defeated the Eagles 69-59, in a non-league game tonight in Ted Wilson Gymnasium.

The Eagles trailed Linfield, 19-14 after the first quarter, but would then go cold in the second period as the Wildcats would outscore NU, 15-9 to take a 34-23 halftime lead. NU hit 9 of 30 shots in the first half for 30% while the Wildcats were 13 of 29 from the field for 45%.  Kalee Fowler led the Eagles with 11 first half points on 5 for 7 shooting (71.4%).

Linfield stretch their lead to 45-29 by the 6:16 mark of the third period. With 1:57 to go in the period, LC would lead by 19 points, 51-32 after Bailey McDevitt's jumper in the lane. McDevitt would then hit a 3-pointer with 13 seconds to go to put Linfield up, 54-36 at the end of the quarter.

With 4:40 to go in the final period, and Linfield leading, 66-45, NU would slowly chip away at the Wildcat lead. Hannah Carlson's two free throws at the 3:18 mark would cap off an Eagle 8-0 run to pull NU to within 13 at 66-53. With LC up 68-53 with 2:19 to go in the game, two free throws by Kalee Fowler and a 3-pointer by Mariah Stacona at 1:40 would make it a 68-58 game, but that would be the closest NU would be able to get as Linfield would post the win.

Kalee Fowler led Northwest U (5-10) with 17 points, hitting 64% of her shots. Mariah Stacona would score 11 second half points to finish with 15 points and Hannah Carlson was 4 for 11 from the field for 13 points. NU was 20 for 66 for 30% shooting and was held to 3 of 15 from the 3-point line (20%).

Linfield (5-6) was led by Paige Graham's 20 points and 6 rebounds with teammate Kory Oleson scoring 17 points. The Wildcats shot 46% from the field and 43% from beyond the 3-point line (6-14). LC also held the edge in rebounding with a 49-32 margin including 16 offensive rebounds.

Comment from Coach Crawford: "We didn't play a very good game tonight and we didn't have enough left in the tank to to make a comeback at the end of the fourth quarter. We had a poor shooting night coupled with poor rebounding which made it too deep a hole for us to get out of. We now have a couple of days to recover and get ready to get back into conference play as we host the College of Idaho and the eighth ranked Eastern Oregon team this weekend at home."

Next Up:
The College of Idaho will be in Kirkland this Friday at 5:30 p.m., as the Eagle resume Cascade Conference play.
