Owls Down Shorthanded Eagles

Box Score KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.Mariah Stacona poured in 27 points, but it wouldn't be enough as Oregon Would pull away from the shorthanded Eagles for a 75-53 Cascade Conference victory. The Eagles suited up just nine players with senior starter Hannah Carlson out with an injury.

Stacona scored 13 of her points in the first half as the Eagles stayed close to the Owls, trailing 18-15 after the first quarter. NU would pull to within a single point twice in the first two minutes of the second quarter on baskets by Hayden Craig and Emily Henderson. Leading 20-19 at the 7:00 mark, Oregon Tech would go on a 10-4 run to take a 30-23 lead after a Bailey Nelson basket with 2:45 left in the half. Jackie Bento's jumper at 1:40 would close the gap to 30-26, but Nohea Waiwaiole would end the half with a jumper to put OIT in front, 32-26 at halftime.

Mariah Stacona would come out hot to start the 3rd quarter and go on her own 9-0 run with three straight 3-pointers to make it a one point, 36-35, game with 7 minutes to go in the period.  But the Owls and the Eagles lack of depth would take its toll as OIT would outscore NU 14-12 to lead 50-37 with 2:20 remaining in the quarter. NU would not be able to make up any ground as Tech would lead 55-41 at the end of the quarter.

In the final period, Oregon Tech would slowly begin to pull away with a deeper bench and with 6:15 remaining in the game, Amanda Constant's 3-pointer would push the Owls' led to 67-44. A 7-0 Eagle run with 4:12 remaining would cut the Tech lead to 16, 69-53, after a Stacona jumper, but NU would not be able to come any closer as OIT would finish for the 75-53 win.

In addition to Stacona's 27 points, Northwest U's (6-13, 3-7 CCC) Miranda Langenhorst would score 8 points and pull down 15 rebounds, including 8 offensive boards. NU shot 30% for the game and 75% from the free throw line.

Oregon Tech (14-8, 705 CCC) was led by Mikaela Shumaker's 15 points and 5 rebounds with Bailey Nelson recording a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. The Owls shot 45% for the game, but were held to 16% shooting from beyond the 3-point line. Tech won the rebounding battle with a 46-41 edge.
