Knights Pull Away to Defeat the Eagles

Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Warner Pacific University overcame a first quarter deficit to defeat Northwest University, 66-53, and put them into a tie for the final playoff spot in the Cascade Conference. Warner Pacific owns the tiebreaker with the Eagles having defeated NU in both their meeting this season.
 
Northwest U got off to a fast start to start the game taking a 16-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. They continued with the hot hand in the second period and found themselves leading 20-9 at the 8:31 mark of the second period. But, back would come the Knights as they would heat up and Kendyl Cone's lay-up at 3:59 would make it a 27-23 lead for Northwest U. The Eagles would miss on six opportunities and with 37 seconds left in the half, Maryah Tipping would make it a two point game at halftime at 27-27-25.
 
A big third quarter for Warner Pacific, outscoring the Eagles 21-10 would put them into the lead 46-37 as the period would end. The Knights would shoot 40% in the second half and hold Northwest U to 30%.
 
NU would make it a game in the fourth quarter and Miranda Langenhorst would score to make it a four point, 55-51, WPC lead with 3:20 to go in the game. Darbi Pink's 3-pointer would increase the Knight lead to 7 at the 2:59 mark. Forced to foul, NU would send the Knights to the free throw line where they would go a perfect 6 for 6 down the stretch to post the win.
 
Miranda Langenhorst led Northwest U (10-18, 7-12 CCC) with 19 points with teammate Kalee Fowler scoring 14.  Mariah Stacona scored 9 points with 4 assists and 3 steals.
 
Warner Pacific (11-18, 7-12 CCC) was led by Darbi Pink's 15 points. Kendyl Cone added 13 points and Maryah Tipping dropped in 12 points for the Knights. WPC held a big margin in the rebounding with a 48-38 edge and shot 41% for the game, 100% from the free throw line (9-9).

Next Up: NU hosts Multnomah in their final home game of the season and it will be Senior Night honoring six outstanding Eagle seniors and their families following the game.
