KIRKLAND – Northwest hosts the Northwest Classic Friday and Saturday with two women's games each day.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. on Friday with Evergreen State taking on Providence. The Eagles then play Montana State-Northern at 7:30 p.m. Saturday's action at Kristi Brodin Pavilion begins with a men's game at 3 p.m. against Linfield. Evergreen plays MSU-N at 5 p.m., and the Eagles sew up the weekend with a 7 p.m. tip against Providence.
Northwest operates under the King County vaccination policy, which requires proof of completed vaccination (two weeks completed) or a negative COVID-19 test result. Rapid antigen tests are not acceptable. Northwest students and staff must show ID.
Andie Kristinat scored 17 points and had five rebounds to lead NU to a 69-61 win over Lewis & Clark State Saturday.
Northwest is 1-6 in its series with Montana State-Northern. The Skylights have won the last four meetings. Northwest got its only win in the series in 2010, 86-77. The teams last met in 2019 with MSU-N getting a 75-46 win.
Sam VanLoo led NU with nine points in the 2019 meeting. The Eagles shot 31 percent from the field in that game.
The Skylights got the season started with a win before falling to 1-2, including a five-point loss to Corban. Senior guard Peyton Kehr leads the team with 13.7 points and 2.3 steals. Sydney Hovde averages 11.3 rebounds.
Providence has won all five meetings in its series with the Eagles. The Argos have won by 19 or more points in each of the last four meetings, including an 89-68 win in Great Falls, Montana, in 2019. Kristinat had 14 points in the 2019 meeting.
Livi Lindsey had 11, and VanLoo hauled in nine rebounds.
Providence has the advantage of experience, coming into the weekend at 6-1 after losing the season opener. Senior guard Emilee Maldonado leads the team with 16 points and six assists per game. Senior center Parker Esary averages 14.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
