Wright Named Academic All-America

KIRKLAND – Northwest University's Callie Wright received Women's NAIA Soccer First-Team Academic All-America status, presented by the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA), the organization announced Tuesday.

Wright, a senior forward from Woodway, is a business administration major and the first NU woman to earn the honor in any sport. She was the lone Cascade Collegiate Conference representative on the First Team.

Wright started 20 games and registered nine goals and five assists for the Eagles this season. She earned First Team All-Cascade Collegiate Conference and Academic All-Conference honors this season.

"Callie is a fantastic example of what it means to excel as a student-athlete," said NU Head Coach Bryan Chud. "She does an amazing job of balancing her academic life alongside her athletic life, surpassing all expectations in both. I'm very proud of her and the work she continuously has put in on and off the field."

For her career, Wright was a three-time First Team All-CCC selection and Newcomer of the Year as a freshman. She also picked up three CCC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Wright and the other members of the Academic All-America team had to have a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or significant contributor to be nominated. Nominees are voted on at the district level by sports information directors within the nominees' districts. The All-District team members are put forward for a national vote from the entire NAIA membership of CoSIDA.

CoSIDA's Academic All-America is the longest-running and most prestigious academic athletic award for student-athletes.

Northwest's previous Academic All-Americans are Luke Fischer (2011 soccer, 2012 and 2013 track/cross country), James Kerr (2011 soccer), Michael Greene (2012, 2013, and 2014 men's basketball), Jordan Travis (2019 soccer), and Riley Sine (2020 and 2021 track/cross country).
