KIRKLAND – Northwest plays the College of Idaho for the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship at noon on Friday at Civic Park in Eugene.

Neither team has the pressure of do-or-die in this game, as both have qualified for the NAIA's Opening Round. NU got the automatic qualifier as the regular season champion. The tournament champion gets the league's second AQ, but if the regular season winner also wins the tournament, the opponent gets the second automatic berth.

Northwest is 9-5-4 in the series with the College of Idaho, including this year's 2-1 win in October.

The Eagles won a winner-take-all contest at the College of Idaho on the last weekend of the regular season. Claire Jo Diede had both goals for Northwest, getting an assist on the second from Kayla Soderstrom. Gianna Yslava had the Yotes' goal to cut the lead to 2-1. Hanne Breur had four saves in the win.

Northwest is in the finals after a pair of 1-0 wins. The Eagles blanked Rocky Mountain in the quarterfinals and then defeated Eastern Oregon in the semifinals, 1-0, in double overtime.

The fourth seed in the tournament, the College of Idaho beat Carroll, 3-2, before getting a 1-0 win over second-seeded Southern Oregon on Wednesday.

The Eagles are 16-1-2 on the season, which represents a new school record for wins by NU. Northwest also will end the season eventually with the fewest losses and the best overall record in school history.

Anna Lau has scored both goals this postseason for Northwest. That gives her a share of the team lead at six, joining Diede, Elizabeth Moretti, and Gracie VanAssche.

The Eagles have 13 shutouts in their 19 contests this season and haven't allowed more than one goal in a game this season.

Breur leads the NAIA and the Cascade Collegiate Conference with 13 shutouts this season. She also leads the CCC and is third in the NAIA in save percentage at .915. She is fourth nationally in goals-against average at 0.31. Her 13 shutouts give her the school record.

Kayla Soderstrom leads the Eagles and the Cascade Collegiate Conference and is 13th in the NAIA with 11 assists this season, which is tied for the school single-season record with Olivia Morris (11 in 2019) and Jaclyn Metz (11 in 2018). Trinity Mischel has five assists, Maya Lewis, Liv Lagerquist, and Elizabeth Moretti have four each, and Rachel Russell has three.

The College of Idaho is receiving votes in the NAIA poll and is 15-2-2 overall. Their losses were at home to Northwest and at No. 16 Embry-Riddle. Yslava has 11 goals and four assists to lead the Yotes with 26 points. Larissa Wegner has five goals and five assists.
