Eugene, OR - The Eagles cross country team went down to Bushnell University on Saturday and ran a brilliant race.
The women's team finished third overall in the 6000m race, while the men's team came out on top of the 8000m race, finishing first.
"We had a good day at the meet," said Head Coach Mark Mandi. "Our women's team kicked off the day for us, and I thought they ran tough."
The women's team featured five racers, including sophomore Rachel Elliot, who finished fifth in the overall race and completed a personal best with a time of 23:59.90.
The men's team was exceptional with three of NU's racers in the top ten and two more finishing in the top 15. Freshman Josiah Jaquith finished on the podium with an unbelievable time of 25:50.70. Right behind him was sophomore Gavin Darrah, who finished a full second after Jaquith did with 25:51.90.
"[The men's team] executed our race plan as well as I've seen them do," continued Mandi. "They stuck their nose right near the front of the race and fought for each place."
Returning from injury was sophomore Levi Nichols, where he ran his first race this season and finished strongly in 15th.
"We finally had Levi race with no restrictions, and by God's grace he was able to run sensationally out there. It was a second team win on the men's side this season, which is a big testament to God's goodness. Now that we've wrapped up the regular season, our focus will be on conference."
The CCC Championships will be held in Portland, Oregon, on Multnomah's campus on Friday, Nov. 8.
