Eagles Cross-Country Team Finishes Strong

Portland, OR - The Northwest men's and women's cross-country team finished their season with the Cascade Collegiate Conference XC Championships.

The Eagles performed strongly but couldn't keep up with the College of Idaho, who won both the men's and women's races in dominating fashion.

With ten racers representing NU, the men's team finished the 8K championship sixth overall with a total of 165 points. Freshman Josiah Jaquith finished the year in the top 15 with another amazing race, running a 25:34.7, which could qualify him for nationals.

"We had a really good end to our season," said Head Coach Mark Mandi. "We may have Josiah Jaquith run at nationals, but we will need to wait until Monday. Our men's team ran tough, battling hard like they have all season. I'm really proud of what they've been able to do."

The women's team finished eighth overall in the 6K championship with 214 points on the board. Taking the charge for the women's team was sophomore Rachel Elliot, who finished 24th with a time of 24:07.2. Marrisa Guthrie also had an impressive performance with a time of 26:05.7, finishing in 41st.

"On the women's side," continued Coach Mandi, "I thought we worked really well as a team and executed a good strategy. Rachel ran a great race in leading the team, and Marissa had her best race of the season. As a program, I am really thankful to God for our leaders who organized a team prayer with other CCC teams before the start of the races. It's a huge honor to be able to lift up the name of Jesus with so many brothers and sisters in Christ. Overall, there are a lot of positives to build off of for years to come."
