William Jessup Edges Eagles

Ryan McIntosh led all Eagle scorers with 18 points
Box Score ROCKLIN, Calif. – William Jessup's Corey Clement sank two free throws with 6 seconds remaining to defeat Northwest University, 85-83, tonight in non-conference play.

The first half was an indication of the entire game as the teams traded baskets as neither team could gain the upper hand the entire 20 minutes. With Jessup leading 22-21, a Michael Greene steal would results in a Ryan McIntosh score in the paint to give NU the 23-22 lead. McIntosh would then steal the ball and score one again to put NU up 25-22. WJU would answer with a basket, but Brett Skogstad would hit a 3-point shot to put the Eagles up 28-24. Jessup would then go on a 6-0 run to take a 30-28 lead. Cody Shackett would hit a jumper with 8 seconds to go to give NU a 44-43 lead, but the Warriors Anthony Edwards would score with just 1 second on the clock to hive WJU the 45-44 halftime lead.

The second half would be much like the first as the team's battled back and forth. NU's Michael Greene would score in the lane for NU with 36 seconds to go to cut the Jessup lead to 81-80 and would be fouled. Greene would miss the free throw and Kelton Newman would sink two free throws for Jessup to make it 83-30 with 21 seconds showing on the clock. CJ Carter would come through with a clutch 3-pointer with 12 seconds left to tie the score at 83-all, but Cody Clement would be fouled with 6 seconds to go and would hit the two free throws to give the Warriors the lead, 85-83 with 6 seconds remaining. CJ Carter's 3-point attempt at the buzzer would be blocked giving Jessup the narrow victory.

Northwest U. (3-2) was led by Ryan McIntosh's 18 points. C.J. Carter added 17 points and 6 rebounds while Brett Skogstad and Michael Greene each scored 15 for the Eagles. Nemanja Grujicic led NU in rebounding with 10. NU shot 43% for the night and managed 67% shooting from the free throw line (17-27). Rebounds were even between the two teams with each grabbing 35 off the glass.

Tim Oswald led William Jessup (3-2) with a game high 24 points and added 7 rebounds. Anthony Edwards scored 17 and Corey Clement contributed 13 for the Warriors who shot 49%. WJU hit 77% from the free throw line going 20 for 26.

The two teams play again tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
