COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. - Scoring 60 points on 68% shooting in the first half would help power Northwest University to a 102-65 victory over Walla Walla University tonight. It was the second consecutive victory over the Wolves in two days for the Eagles who improved to 8-2 for the season.
The Eagles hit 23 of 34 of their shots including 9 of 14 from the 3-point line to take a 60-35 lead at halftime. WWU shot a respectable 48% in the period hitting 12 of their 25 shots, but they would not be able to stay up with the hot shooting Eagles. NU topped off the half by hitting all 5 of their free throws.
Northwest was able to clear their bench in the second half as 9 players registered double digits in playing minutes. Starter Nemanja Grujicic did not play in the contest.
Senior forward Michael Greene led Northwest U. (8-2) with a game high 23 points and added 8 rebounds. Brett Skogstad came off the bench for the second straight night and scored 20 points hitting 85% of his shots, all 3-pointers, and going 2 for 2 from the free throw line. Michael Russo went 7 for 8 (87%) dropping in 19 while C.J. Carter scored 17 points and handed out a game high 9 assists. NU out rebounded the Wolves 36-19 and only turned the ball over 6 times.
"I was pleased to see our team come out and get things going right from the start tonight," said John Van Dyke, Eagle head coach. The 60 points half showed a lot of concentration and a great deal of team play. 22 assists for the night shows we're sharing the ball and our players are looking for their teammates."
Walla Walla (0-12) was led by Tyreek Luckett's 18 points and Luke Spady hit 7 of 14 shots for 17 points. Dusan Sparavalo contributed 14 points for WWU who shot 44% for the contest.Â
