Strong First Half Start Lifts Eagles Over Corban

Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University's solid start in the first half would help them to an 82-59 CCC win over Corban University in the NU Pavilion tonight. The Eagles would take a 14 point lead at half which they would never relinquish the remainder of the game.
 
With the score tied at 11-all, six minutes into the game, Northwest would go on a 14-0 run started by a lay-in by C.J. Carter and capped off by another lay-in in the paint by Michael Greene as the Eagles would take a 25-11 lead with 9:33 showing on the clock. Two free throws by Jordan Carter would cut the NU lead to 10, 27-17, but another run of 9-2 would push the Eagles lead to 38-19 with 3:49 left in the half. Carter would cut the NU lead to 12 with a dunk (1:21), but Ryan McIntosh would answer with a driving lay in as Northwest would take a 40-26 lead into halftime.
 
Corban would come out in the second half and cut the Eagle lead to 9, 45-36, after a 3-pointer by Tyler Edwards, but NU would outscore the Warriors 19-9 over the next 6 minutes to pump their lead to 19, 64-45 on a short jumper by Ryan McIntosh. Brett Skogstad would hit a trey with 4:32 remaining in the game for NU's largest lead, 80-56, as the Eagles would post their 15th win of the season.
 
Nemanja Grujicic would lead five Eagles in scoring with 23 points and 10 rebounds for Northwest U (15-6, 6-4 CCC). Ryan McIntosh scored 14 and teammate Brett Skogstad hit 50% of his 3-point attempts (4-8) for 12 points. Michael Russo, playing his first game since sitting out three with an injury scored 11 and Michael Greene dropped in 11 for NU. Northwest shot 45% for the game and out rebounded Corban 43-32.
 
Corban (6-13, 2-8 CCC) was led by Jordan Carter's team high 18 points while Tyler Edwards contributed 13 points for the Warriors. Josiah Sebens added 9 while Crus Ward led the team with 9 rebounds. Corban shot 42% on the night and hit 9 of 10 free throws for 90%.

"I was pleased with our intensity and focus tonight," said John Van Dyke, NU head coach, "especially on defense in the first half. Our guys were focused on the task and the way we started the game set the tone for the rest of the night. Nemanja (Grujicic) stepped up with a solid double-double tonight and his 6 offensive rebounds were a key factor."
 
Both teams are back in CCC action tomorrow night as Northwest U hosts Northwest Christian and Corban takes on Evergreen in Olympia. Both games tip off at 7:30 p.m.
