Eagle Men Take Second Game from Vancouver Island

Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – NU's Nemanja Grujicic scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Eagles defeated Vancouver Island for a second straight time, 65-60 this morning.

The Eagles got off to a fast start and took a 17-7 lead after a 3-pointer by Marko Nikolic. Free throws by Tommy Jordan and CJ Carter would make it 21-11 at the 10 minute mark. Jordan would hit a 3-pointer with 5:22 remaining in the half to grow the NU lead to 13, 28-15, and Nemanja Grujicic's  jumper , would push the lead further to 30-15 with 3:55 left in the half. The Eagles would maintain the distance the rest of the period as they would take a 14 point, 36-22, lead at the break.

Northwest would hold on to their comfortable lead for almost 14 minutes into the second half, but VIU would then begin their comeback.  Leading 55-44, NU would see their lead slowly melt away as the Mariners would go on an 11-0 run, aided by baskets by Americans Justin King and Kadeem Stewart, to tie the score at 55-55 with 3:05 to go in the game.  With 57 seconds to go, Justin King, would tie the score at 60-60 with his three point play, but that would be the final score of the contest for Vancouver Island as Northwest would hit 5 of 6 free throws to close out the victory.

In addition to Grujicic's double-double, Northwest's (2-0) Jeremy Paull scored 10 points with Marko Nikolic and CJ Carter each scoring 9 points each. NU lost the rebound battle, 45-40 while shooting 40% for the game.

Justin King led Vancouver Island (2-4) with a game high 26 points. Teammate Jason Fortin added 10 points and added 8 rebounds. Kadeem Stewart, who scored 25 the night before, was held to 7 points.
