Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. - Northwest University had four players score in double figures as the Eagles came from behind and defeated Thompson Rivers 70-65 in a non-league contest tonight.
Northwest U overcame an eleven point halftime deficit as they trailed the WolfPack 37-26 at the break. TRU held Northwest to just 28% shooting, but the Eagles heated up in the second half shooting 50% (15-30).
After tying the game at 8-8, TRU would take the lead on Victor Aguero's 3-pointer at the 13:58 and the WolfPack would continue to lead the remainder of the half. Josh Wolfram's trey with 1:28 remaining in the period would give Thompson Rivers their largest lead at 34-22 with 1:30 on the clock. NU's
Paul Loranger would cut the TRU lead to 8, 34-26 with 30 seconds on the clock, but Brett Rouault would answer for the Wolfpack with a trey with 13 seconds to go to give TRU a 37-26 halftime lead.
TRU would lead by 13 to start the second half, but Northwest U would then go on a 13-0 run capped off by
Nemanja Grujicic's offensive tip-in to knot the score at 41-41 with 15:57 to go in the contest. NU would take a brief 44-41 lead after a tip-in by
Paul Loranger, but back would come Thompson Rivers on a 9-0 run of their own to give them a 6 point, 50-44 lead (11:23). Grujicic would tie the score at 52-52 with his lay-in as Northwest would then heat up and outscore the WolfPack 8-0 to sprint to a 60-52 lead with 7:30 remaining. Reese Pribilsky's two free throws would close the gap to 65-53, but NU would answer and that would be the closest TRU would come the rest of the way as NU would close out the game for the win.
Nemanja Grujicic led all Northwest U (11-5) scorers with 18 points and 7 rebounds.
C.J. Carter added 16,
Dak Shagren 13 and
Thomas Jordan 11, as Northwest improved to 11-5 on the season. The Eagles outrebounded TRU 41-29 and hit 73% of their free throws (19-26).
Thompson Rivers (9-9) was led by Reese Pribilsky's 14 points. Brett Rouault scored 12 as Northwest held their leading scorer, Josh Wolfram to 7 points, 13 under his season average. TRU shot 48% for the game and managed 53% from the free throw line (9 of 17).
"We needed to begin believing in ourselves collectively and putting trust in one another," said Coach
John Van Dyke. "We began doing that in the second half and the result speaks for itself. This was a step in the right direction as we continue to strive to improve with each and every game we play."
