Concordia Pulls Away from Eagles with Strong Second half

Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Down by one at halftime, Concordia put together a 47 point second half for a 74-57 CCC victory over Northwest U tonight to post their 20th win of the season.
 
It looked as though Northwest would be headed to a good night as they jumped out to an early 18-6 lead, 9:52 into the game. But, then the Eagles would go cold going 0 for 8 from the floor while Concordia would go on a 12-0 run to tie the game at 18-all on Esvan Middleton's tip-in at the 6:27 mark. NU would hold on to a narrow lead until Adam Herman would score 2 of his game high 25 with a dunk coming down the middle of the lane with 2:14 showing on the clock. Michael Greene would hit a short jumper with 41 seconds to give Northwest a slim, 28-27 lead heading into halftime.
 
Northwest would take a 47-46 lead after Ryan McIntosh's trey and 11:24 to go in the game. But the Cavaliers would regain the lead on Kory Kirwin's driving lay-up and they would slowly pull away and increase their lead.  Kirwin would hit one of two free throws with 3:16 to go in the game to give Cu a 63-53 lead. NU's shooting woes would continue as Anthony Holton would hit three straight free throws with 66 seconds to go to help seal the win for the Cavaliers, their 20th of the season.
 
Northwest U (17-9, 8-7 CCC) was led by Michael Greene's 20 points and 8 rebounds. C.J. Carter dropped in 14 while Michael Russo and Ryan McIntosh each had 8 for the Eagles. NU managed only 5 of 31 from the 3-point line for just 16%.
 
Adam Herman led Concordia (20-6, 9-5 CCC) with a game high 25 points hitting 7 of 12 shots from the field. Thomas Pierce added 16 and Esvan Middleton contributed 10 points and 16 rebounds for the double-double. CU shot 41% on the night while holding Northwest to 31%. CU out rebounded the Eagles 46-42 and had 21 offensive rebounds.
 
"We struggled to hit some open shots tonight which is unlike us," said John Van Dyke, NU head coach, "but credit Concordia for hitting theirs at critical times of the game. They're a solid team this year. We'll re-group and prepare for Warner Pacific coming into our place tomorrow night."
 
Both teams are back in action tomorrow night as NU hosts Warner Pacific and Concordia travels to Evergreen. Both games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
