Big Yote Comeback Drops Eagles

Box Score CALDWELL, Idaho – No. 5 ranked College of Idaho overcame a 13 point halftime deficit to defeat Northwest University 93-80 tonight to wrap up the CCC regular season. The Yotes outscored Northwest U 61-35 in the second half to complete the come-from-behind victory.

It looked as though the Eagles might be headed for an upset as they held the No. 5 Yotes to just 19 points in the first 16 minutes of play taking a 41-19 lead. But C of I would heat up and cut into the Eagles lead and Josh Wilson's two free throws with 1:16 remaining in the half would give NU a 45-32 lead they would take into the locker room at the half.

Nemanja Grujicic would get the Eagles off to the right start in the second half with a steal and lay-in to give NU a 15 point, 47-32 lead 45 seconds into the period. But Sydney Donaldson's driving lay-in with 12:23 to go would cut the Eagle lead to just two, 53-51. NU turnovers and missed shots would be a catalyst for a Yote 27-13 run which would give them a commanding 78-64 with 5:14 left in the contest. Northwest would never recover as the Yotes would grow their led to 90-73 with just 1:03 left in the game and they would go on to record their 25th victory of the season.

C.J. Carter led Northwest U (19-10, 10-8 CCC) with 15 points. Michael Russo and Nemanja Grujicic each scored 14 points and Ryan McIntosh added 13 points as the Eagles shot a very respectable 48% for the game.  NU hit 17 of 22 free throws for 77% and rebounding was even between the teams with 33 each.

The College of Idaho (25-5, 16-2 CCC) had four players in double figures led by Josh Wilson's 19 points. Antonio Garrett dropped in 18, Sydney Donaldson 12 and Joe Vaz finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds. The Yotes shot a blistering 70% in the second half, 54% for the game. 

The Eagles will await the release of the CCC seedings for the quarterfinals of the conference post season tournament which will begin on Wednesday.
