Eagles Down EOU for Big Road Win

Michael Dupree scored a team high 29 points tonight.
Box Score LA GRANDE, Ore. – Northwest University's Michael Dupree scored a team high 29 points to help lift the Eagles to a 93-81 Cascade Conference win tonight in the Quinn Coliseum. Dupree hit 47 percent of his shots (6-17) and 50 percent of his 3-point attempts, to help lift the Eagles to their third CCC win.

Shooting 44 percent in the first half, the Eagles broke a 14-14 tie at 10:17, to lead the remainder of the half building a 15 point, 43-28, lead at halftime. Four straight points by Dak Shagren with 49 seconds left on the clock helped the Eagles increase their lead.

Northwest U maintained the lead the entire second half, but Eastern Oregon would make two runs to cut into the Eagle lead. Two free throws by EOU's Trell Washington would make it a 6 point, 60-54 NU lead with 10:41 remaining in the game. But, NU would counter the Mountaineer run with a 10-2 run of their own capped off by two Michael Dupree free throws and a 3-pointer by Shagren at the 7:34 mark. EOU would not get any closer as the Eagles would maintain a 10 to 12 point lead the rest of the way. NU would go 7 for 8 from the free throw line in the closing minutes to preserve the victory.

In addition to Dupree's team high, Northwest U (7-9, 3-3 CCC) got 18 points from Dak Shagren and 17 from Ben Tucakovic. Dupree also led the team in assists with 6 for the game. NU shot 54 percent in the second half and 48 percent for the game. The Eagles were also 25 of 31 from the foul line for 85 percent.

Eastern Oregon (6-9, 2-3 CCC) was led by Trell Washington's game high 31 points and 13 rebounds. Case Rada added 15 points and Kelvin Johanson contributed 14 in the Mountaineers effort. EOU managed to shot 33 percent for the night, but only 19 percent from the 3-point line (5-26). The Mounties did out rebound the Eagles, 44-31, including 19 offensive rebounds.

"It was a good effort by our team tonight," said John Van Dyke. "This is a difficult place to play and I was pleased with the way we shot the ball which is a credit to our guys finding the open man and making good decisions. Our defense is improving as well which is a positive. It always good to win on the road in our conference."

NU now travels to Caldwell to play the College of Idaho tomorrow night in another CCC game tipping off at 6:30 p.m., Pacific Time.
