Dak Shagren scored 24 points for Northwest University in the conference opener as they defeated the Evergreen State College, 87-74, tonight in the NU Pavilion. Shagren hit 8 of 12 shots including 5 for 7 from beyond the 3-point line. NU has posted a 10-0 record, their best since the 2012 season.

The Eagles opened the game with a quick start taking a 12-2 lead after a
Paul Loranger tip in off a missed shot. TESC would battle back and Taylor Drey's driving lay-up would quickly cut the NU lead to two, 12-10, with 15 minutes to play. But, Northwest U would build their lead back up to 13, 28-15 after a
Ben Tucakovic lay-up. NU would maintain the lead the rest of the half with their largest lead coming at the 4:06 mark when
Justice Martion's jumper would make it a 39-22 Eagle lead as they would go on to lead 41-24 at the half.

Northwest U would lead by as much as 23 in the second half, but the Geoducks would chip away at the Eagle lead in the final three minutes of play although it wouldn't be enough as NU would post their 10
th straight win of the season.

Northwest U (10-0, 1-0 CCC) also got 17 points from
Michael Dupree who added 7 assists.
Paul Loranger and
Justice Martion both scored 13 points for the Eagles who shot 48 per cent from the field. NU edged the Geoducks in rebounding, 46-45, with both teams grabbing 15 offensive rebounds.

Taylor Drey led Evergreen (2-5, 0-1 CCC) with 22 points with teammate Shawn Spencer adding 13 points. The Geoducks shot 41 per cent and were held to just 16 per cent shooting from the 3-point line.

"We put together our best half of the season thus far in the first," said
John Van Dyke, NU head coach. "I was pleased with our level of focus and intensity which helped us build a good lead on Evergreen team that beat a ranked Lewis-Clark State the other night.
Paul Loranger really set a good example for his teammates with his solid play and hustle. We're improving little by little as our guys continue to take pride in their play."

Northwest U will now take a short trip Thursday to play Seattle University in an exhibition game at the Key Arena.
