Eagles Fall to No. 8 Northwest Christian

Box Score EUGENE, Ore. – No. 8 ranked Northwest Christian overcame a halftime deficit to defeat the NU Eagles, 68-57, to win their 15th straight game and remain atop the Cascade Conference standings. Northwest U led NCU 28-26, but the Beacons came back to outscore the Eagles 42-29 in the second half.

With the score tied at 10-10, ten minutes into the first half, Northwest U would go on a 12-3 run ignited by Michael Dupree's 3-pointer. A Dak Shagren jumper at 6:19 would give NU a 22-13 lead. NCU would cut the Eagle lead to 26-23 with 1:49 to go and Kenny Blackwell's trey would tie the score at 26-all with 1:14 to go in the half. After a miss by NCU, Michael Dupree would drive to the basket and score with 5 seconds remaining to put NU up 28-26 at halftime.

NCU would tie the score just 10 seconds into the second half and take the lead for good at 18:35 with Omar Richard's driving lay-in. The Eagles would have trouble scoring over the next five minutes going 2 for 7 from the field while NCU would build a 42-30 lead at 14:06. Northwest U would make one last run at the Beacons with 6:45 to go in the game making it a 52-45 game, but it would be the closest NU would come as NCU would post their 15th straight CCC win.

Michael Dupree would lead Northwest U (10-17, 6-10 CCC) with a game high 25 points. Teammate Dak Shagren scored 13 and Zach Smith added 10 points and 9 rebounds. NU would manage just 33 percent shooting going 20 for 60 from the field and hit 6 of 26 3-point attempts for 23 percent. NU did shoot 79 percent from the foul line going 11 for 14. Each team would finish with 38 rebounds.

Northwest Christian (22-4, 15-1 CCC) was led by Kenny Blackwell's 21 points and 8 rebounds. Omar Richards added 19 points and 7 rebounds for the Beacons who shot 48 percent for the contest. NCU managed just 6 of 12 from the free throw line for 50 percent.

"For the second night in a row we had trouble offensively in the second half," said NU head coach, John Van Dyke. "But, some credit goes to Northwest Christian for making some defensive adjustments at halftime. We'll have to do a better job of executing in the second half as we move forward."
