CORVALLIS, Ore. – Three Eagles scored in double figures in an 86-61 Thanksgiving Day loss to California.
Â
Dejwan Walker led the Eagles with 12 points, while Cacoa Chatman and
Pa'Treon Lee scored 10 each in their NU debuts.
Â
Northwest led briefly early, taking a 3-2 lead on a three-pointer by
Cesar Sandoval.
Â
"Once the adrenalin wore off, we got down to executing plays, and we looked a lot better in the second half," said NU Head Coach
Jeff Drinkwine. "The fouls hurt us. We wanted to get Cesar and Daniel on the court together, but the foul trouble made that hard to do."
Already battling a significant height differential, the Eagles lost Sandoval to fouls, and
Daniel Sharpe played with four fouls.
Â
NU put together an 11-0 run in the second half, fueled by six points by Sharpe, along with three by Chatman and two by Lee.
Â
"Their size and their length gave us trouble, but our guys never quit, and I was proud of that," said Drinkwine.
Ten Eagles scored in the game, with Sharpe and
J.R. Delgado adding eight points each.
Devante Powell and
Jase Paulsen had three points each, and
Cole Langstraat and
Keaton McKay tacked on two each.
Â
Walker led with six rebounds, and Sharpe and Delgado contributed five each. Walker and Chatman had three assists apiece. Chatman led the Eagles with three of the team's 10 steals.
Â
Northwest finishes its stay in Corvallis with a 10 a.m. contest against host Oregon State Friday.Â
"It's going to be another tough one tomorrow," Drinkwine said. "They're bigger and more athletic, but we'll go out and try to compete."
