CORVALLIS, Ore – Northwest dropped a 114-42 decision in an exhibition game at Oregon State Friday.
Â
"They were just so long and physical, and that reach showed up as turnovers," said NU Head Coach
Jeff Drinkwine. "We wanted to play a closer game, but our guys never quit. That's a great characteristic of this team."
Â
The Eagles used a 5-0 run to take a 5-4 lead, getting a three-pointer by
Cesar Sandoval and a layup by
Pa'Treon Lee with 17:38 remaining in the first half.
Â
Oregon State later scored 30 unanswered points and led 57-15 at the half.
Â
Sandoval and Lee led the Eagles with eight points each. Northwest also got six from
Dejwan Walker, four from
Daniel Sharpe and
Keaton McKay, three apiece from
Jase Paulsen, Cacoa Chatman, and
J.R. Delgado, two from
Cole Langstraat, and one from
Devante Powell.
Â
Delgado hauled in six rebounds to lead the Eagles.
Â
Langstraat led the Eagles with five assists, and Chatman chipped in with three steals.
Â
NU shot 28 percent from the field and hit three of 17 three-point attempts.
Â
"Playing these games, we get to see some of our deficiencies," Drinkwine said. "It shows us what we need to work on, whereas if we were playing lesser opponents, we wouldn't have as good of an idea of our weaknesses."
Â
The Eagles get a day off before battling at Portland Sunday at noon to finish a three-game swing in Oregon.
