Box Score OLYMPIA, Wash. – With dry weather outside the CRC on the Evergreen campus, it was raining 3-pointers inside the gym as Northwest University pulled away for a 102-94 CCC victory tonight. The teams combined for 33 three-pointers with the teams combining for a 48 percent shooting average from beyond the 3-point arc.
Evergreen hit 19 of 33 treys while Northwest U dropped in 14 of 30 from beyond the arc accounting for 99 points in the game.
The Geoducks would take an early lead as Frankie Johnson would score the first 9 points of the game to give ESC a 9-8 lead three minutes into the contest. Otis Brock would hit a jumper to increase the ESC lead to 11-8, but
Tomas Ogbaslassie would come off the bench and his two straight treys to give NU a 14-13 lead. After Alix Hernandez would tie the game at 21-21 with 8:57 showing on the clock, Northwest would outscore Evergreen 13-8 to lead 34-29 at the 5:31 mark. Frankie Johnson would tie the game with 1:54 to go in the half (38-38).
Thomas Jordan would drain a 3-ppinter with 49 seconds remaining to give NU a brief 44-43 lead as Donald Terry would answer with a three of his own with 11 seconds on the clock to give ESC the 46-44 lead at halftime.
The game would swing back and forth for most of the second half that would see 19 lead changes and 5 ties. With the game in its final tie at 80-80 and 5:23 left in the game, Northwest would take control of the game and slowly pull away. Back-to-back threes by
Tomas Ogbaslassie and
Dak Shagren would give the Eagles a double digit, 93-83, lead with 2:16 on the clock. Evergreen would be forced to foul in the remaining time and the Eagles would hit 9 of 10 free throws to put the game away and earn their 12
th victory of the season.
Dak Shagren led Northwest U (12-5, 2-3 CCC) with 31 points, hitting 8 of 11 treys for 73 percent. He shot 67 percent overall dropping in 10 of 15 shots.
Tomas Ogbaslassie came off the bench to score 19 points with all five of his field goals coming from the 3-point line for 71 percent shooting.
Thomas Jordan scored 17 points and handed out 6 assists while
C.J. Carter scored a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Nemanja Grujicic also recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game high 14 rebounds. The taller Eagles out rebounded Evergreen 41 to 28 including 14 offensive rebounds.
Evergreen (3-9, 0-5 CCC) was led by Frankie Johnson's 31 points tying him with NU's Shagren for game high honors. Johnson hit 11 of 15 shots for a 73 percent shooting average for the night. Alix Hernandez added 13 points and 4 assists. Teammate Jordan Dam contributed 12 points and seven rebounds for the Geoducks.
"It was one of those nights where defense took a back seat to offense as both teams shot the lights out," said
John Van Dyke of Northwest U. "We shot the ball well and I was pleased with the way our guys moved the ball and found the open man. 22 assists shows we're sharing the ball. We had some tough match-ups with Evergreen, but we came up with important stops and rebounds in the second half when it counted for the win."
NU will travel to Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon next weekend for more Cascade Conference play.
