Eagles Upset No. 3 Yotes on Senior Night

Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. - Nemanja Grujicic and Thomas Jordan combined for 25 points as Northwest University upset the No. 3 ranked College of Idaho, 66-60, on their senior night and the final game of the regular season.
 
The Eagle defense held the NAIA's No. 3 team twenty points under their 80 point per game average. The Yotes had hit the century mark the night before with a 100-67 win at Evergreen
 
The close first half would be marked by five ties and ten lead changes. After almost twelve minutes of play the score was tied just 16-16. Jeremy Paull's offensive tip in with 7:30 left in the half would give NU a 19-16 lead. The Yotes would then reel off eight straight points to take a 24-19 lead after Jordan O'Byrne's 3-pointer from the wing. Back would come the Eagles as Jeremy Paull would sink a trey from the left corner to give NU a 28-26 lead with 3:24 on the clock. With C of I leading 32-31 and 19 seconds on the clock, Tomas Ogbaslassie would hit a 3-pointer eight seconds to go to give NU a 34-32 lead at halftime.
 
Two minutes into the second half senior Brandyn Winkley's jumper would give Northwest U a 40-34 lead, but the Yotes would regain the lead on a 3-point play by Demetrius Perkins at 44-42. With 4:19 to go, and the game tied for the eighth and final time at 55-55, Northwest U would take the lead for good on a timely 3-pointer by Dak Shagren at the 2:49 mark. Neither team would score for over a minute forcing the Yotes to foul. NU, who missed key free throws in a tough loss the night before, converted on 6 of 8 free throws down the stretch to hold on the lead for the upset.
 
Northwest U (16-14, 6-12 CCC) also got 11 points from Tomas Ogbaslassie and senior Brandyn Winkley came off the bench to score eight points. C.J. Carter had a team high six assists for the night.
 
Jordan O'Byrne led the College of Idaho (25-5, 14-4 CCC) with a game high 19 points. Teammate Demetrius Perkins scored 16 and Marko Kovacevic scored 10 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. The College of Idaho had a big margin in the rebounding category with a 44-33 edge.
 
"I was very pleased with our effort and resolve tonight," commented John Van Dyke, NU head coach. "The team showed resiliency coming back from a heartbreaking loss last night and I'm very proud of our seniors in the way they chose to end their careers. Thirty of our points came from the bench which speaks volumes about the team effort tonight."
