Dennis first came to Northwest in 1967 after turning down multiple full ride scholarships in order to obey God’s leading. He would say he chose the “pay-your-own-way scholarship” to play basketball for the Northwest College Eagles. While playing basketball, Dennis was a Biblical Theology and Pastoral Studies major. Dennis scored 1,279 career points for NU (No. 3 all-time) between 1968-71, in 69 games and had a career average of 18.5 points per game (No. 2 all-time); 260-306 from the free throw line for an 85% career average (No. 1 all-time).

In 1968, LaMance averaged 24 points per game, 83% from the free throw line and was named a starter on the conference all-star team. His 90% free throw average in the 1969 season is still No. 1 on the all-time list and his 85% average in 1970 is No. 2 on the list.
